This animation was originally created in segments to be incorporated into a longer video about Diabetic retinopathy. This condition results from micro-vascular retinal changes.The lack of oxygen in the retina stimulates release of VEGF, a factor that causes fragile, new blood vessels to grow along the retina and in the clear, gel-like vitreous humour. Without timely treatment, these new blood vessels can bleed, cloud vision, and destroy the retina.
